Meet Courtney

Courtney Marie is a multi-passionate entrepreneur, designer, and podcaster. She went from being broke and $20k in debt to financially free and running a multiple 6-figure web design business.

She is now the CEO of Courtney Marie & Co., a design agency helping coaches and course creators stand out online to attract their ideal clients through Kajabi and Showit websites.

What Led You To Make A Pivot In Your Biz?

Before Courtney was a web designer, she worked as a personal trainer. Courtney says that when pivoting into web design that it took a “leap of faith and also being okay with letting go of what thought was a plan for life.” She talks about how she wanted to explore another skill that she had and not limit herself just because she was comfortable in what she was doing.

When pivoting your business, sometimes the biggest thing is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. It’s important to be open to change and new experiences within your biz!

What Do You Love About Kajabi?

Courtney talks about how she loves the all-in-one aspect of Kajabi. “It’s the website, the landing pages, the email marketing, the blog, course, payment processor, all in one place.”

Kajabi is great for those who are just starting an online business and for those who want to get up and running quickly. It has a very user-friendly interface on all sides of the platform and offers a lean system by eliminating the need for a ton of tools.

What Do You Love About Showit?

On the other hand, Showit is great for those who are looking for more creative agency or who want to create a higher-end brand presence. It is also great for people who don’t need the bells and whistles of Kajabi.

Although Showit does require more technical skills. However, in order to uplevel your biz, you have to be invested in wanting to learn how to use it to successfully use it for your business. Showit is an awesome tool for optimizing your web design and taking your biz to the next level.

Showit has allowed Courtney more creative freedom “to fully express as a designer, and really uplevel skill set to provide that to clients.” With Showit,  the possibilities are endless and it allows you to take your web design to the next level.

What Are Your Tips For Auditing Your Website?

Courtney finds that auditing your website one to two times a year is the best practice. When auditing your website, you want to look at “everything from design, to layout, to copy, and then user experience.”

Some things to look at when auditing your website:

  • Are your links working?
  • Is there a way that you are collecting email addresses through an opt in for building your email list?
  • Are images cut off? Are they aligned with the page?
  • Do your texts really stand out like headlines? Are they bold? Are they easy to read?
  • Is the page easy to navigate?
  • Where do I want the user to go? Does the website guide them where I want them to go?
  • Is it easy to read?
  • Is it easy to understand what I do, who I help and what I offer?

What are some of the first steps people should take to prepare for a website build?

Before you start building your website, there are a few key things you need to have in place.

Courtney says that before you start creating your website, you should have:

  1. Your Branding

This includes everything like fonts, colors, and branding icons.

  1. Brand Photoshoot

We get it, brand photoshoots can be scary! Check out Courtney’s best tips for planning your brand photoshoot here!

  1. Website Copy

Although some people like to choose their website template first and then write their website copy, it’s crucial to write this before you start plugging everything in.

How have systems contributed to the trajectory and growth of your agency?

Courtney stresses that you need systems in your business no matter what type of biz you own.

She says that “as a business owner, you need to tap into the part of your brain that says how can we make things easier, more simple, and more efficient? Yes, I’m a creative, but I’m also very, how can I make things more efficient?”

Courtney and her team use ClickUp as the hub of their biz. The important thing to remember is that systems aren’t going to be perfect on the first try. “You’re going to improve it over time, and you’re going to create something, try it for a few weeks and realize this doesn’t work and scratch it and rebuild it.”
