Tip #1: Plan Your Days

When it comes to planning your days, this can be a rigid structure of time blocking for some or it can be a looser structure.

Time blocking is basically the practice of planning out every moment of our day on it from a weekly week at a glance.

There are two different types of time blocking, day theming and task batching. Task batching looks like focusing on a specific task at a specific time of the day. For example, focusing on answering all of your emails at 9 am every day and then focusing on writing content every day at 10 am.

On the other hand, day-theming looks more like giving each day a theme. For example, focusing on admin work on Tuesdays and focusing on marketing on Thursdays.

I personally used to do a hybrid of the two types where I would have a theme day with recurring tasks like checking my email built into that. However, since having my first baby in September, my daily plans have looked very different!

Although it’s not necessary to heavily time block, loosely planning your days helps you be proactive instead of reactive.

While you want to loosely plan out your day, you also need to leave room for the unexpected. Don’t pack your day to the point where you have no room to spend more time on a project or handle urgent tasks that pop up!

Tip #2: Schedule Time Off + Schedule Daily Breaks For Yourself

It may sound counterproductive to take time off if you want to be more productive, but it’s absolutely true. It’s so important to take a day off when you need one to avoid being overwhelmed.

Tired people produce tired work and so it’s super important to plan time off whether it’s an afternoon, a whole day, or even a whole week!

It’s also so important to schedule breaks for lunch and to just get up from your desk and walk around for a bit.

If you find yourself lacking the energy to work on your tasks and projects, go take a break and come back to it later. It’s okay if you have to come back to it outside of your “regular working hours”. In other words, it’s most important that the time you are spending on your work is intentional and efficient.

Tip #3: Pinpoint Your Productive And Unproductive Times

One of the biggest things that has helped me out of all of my top productivity tips is pinpointing my productive and unproductive times. Knowing when you are productive and unproductive can change the game for your productivity. However, this changes throughout your life so make sure to listen to your body and know when it’s time to change things up!

For example, If you know that you start to get tired in the middle of the day, then plan tasks that don’t require a lot of energy and headspace. Or, plan to go on a walk or do something non-work-related during that time. Sometimes getting up and moving our bodies helps us boost our energy and be more productive!

Also, plan your bigger tasks and projects around the times when you are most productive!

Tip #4: Prioritize Your Tasks + Projects

Prioritizing your tasks is super important to managing your productivity. So often we want to do the easiest and quickest tasks first to just get them out of the way and checked off of our list.

However, that can easily turn into spending the whole day on tasks that aren’t urgent when you could have knocked out an urgent project!

Tip #5: Set Boundaries Around Your Time + Communicate Them To Your Team And Clients

Setting boundaries is crucial as a business owner. And communicating your boundaries to your team and clients is so so important. In this space, it’s so easy to feel like everyone needs an immediate response.

But, if you set those boundaries around communication, people will be understanding and it will empower them to set boundaries too.

Here are a few ideas of boundaries to start setting:

  1. Set times to log off for the day. Especially when we are working from home, it can be easy to stretch your working hours. But try to set your hours and stick to them!
  2. Set boundaries around methods of communication with your team and clients. And choose specific methods of communication for specific circumstances.
  3. Set boundaries around the days and times you can schedule meetings. Having meetings sporadically scheduled throughout every day doesn’t allow for focus time. Try setting meeting specific days or a block of meeting specific hours every day!

All in all, there are soooo many productivity tips out there. Just remember that it’s all about finding what works best for you. Also, be willing to experiment with different things to find what works for you!
